Another fantastic heavy tackle marlin fishing is now over. The Crew at Moana catching lots of big fish over 1000 pounds, 2 in the 11-1200 range and one well in excess of 1200 pounds.

Lizard Island Tournament 15-21 October 2006

Day 5 at the Heavy Tackle Tag & Release Only Tournament on Lizard Island, Moana Charters won the prize for catching the most fish.

Cairns 2005 Heavy Tackle Black Marlin Season

The 2005 giant black marlin season off Cairns has come and gone. As always it was a focal point for the world's best boats, crews, anglers and fish.

The local vessel Moana, skippered by Daniel McCarthy, weighed a grander in early October and this great fish was taken on a lure. Daniel joins the elite 'grander black on a lure club' enjoyed by only a handful of Captains in the world.

Warming up for Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic

Moana, skippered by Capt Daniel McCarthy, also weighed in a 1000–plus specimen that was caught on a lure at the southern end of the reef.

The boat was on the way to fish the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic tournament when the fish was caught.

The season is going really well, in the last week we have caught a bunch of nice Black Marlin including, a 700lb, 900lb, 950lb, & a 1051lb caught on a lure. Also numerous small ones from 150 - 500lb.

Moana Charters had a good result at the Lizard Island Tournament catching the Biggest Marlin in the competition!

The 1072lb Black Marlin pictured above won us the Heaviest Marlin category at Lizard Island, and remarkably Kirill & his friend Andrei are the 1st Russians to ever fish the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic.

Kirill also finished 5th overall in the "Tag & Release" section.
