Light Tackle Sportsfishing
Light
Tackle Sportsfishing is conducted on Moana Fishing Charters all year
round in different areas of the reef.
March to August is Spanish Mackerel fishing time. Averaging 15-20lb they are great fun especially on 10 & 20lb line. Fairly commonly caught around 50-60lb they do grow to 100lb!!
November to March is time to fish the outer edge of the reef for Sailfish, Big Mackerel, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi and small Marlin to 300lb.
The
main stay of the Light Tackle fishery is the Juvenile Black
Marlin and Sailfish which are caught along
the inside of the reef from March to September. From 10 to 150lb these
aerobatic fish put on a spectacular display. When they feed aggressively
multiple hook-ups provide lots of chaotic fun. Using 10-20lb line on
custom rods and quality reels helps us to appreciate the speed and agility
of the magnificent creatures.
Flyfishing for juvenile marlin and Sailfish prove to entertain and excite even the most experienced anglers. Day trips as well as Liveaboard trips are both great way to enjoy Light Tackle and or Flyfishing.
